Valerie Mallory makes large mixed-media installations that often bring human figures into shared symbolic spaces. Her artist biography traces work for Burning Man from 2004 and lists later open-playa projects. Womantree, created with illustrator and concept designer Mikell Haynes, first appeared there in 2014 according to the dedicated project account. Cast bodies and faces combine into a tree form concerned with women’s lives and relationships across generations. The Bridge and the Cage followed in 2017, again with Haynes credited in the event archive. The Womantree site also describes an enlarged 2024 anniversary version, but retains both forward-looking and retrospective language. The original presentation and later version are therefore kept distinct, without assuming identical dimensions, physical continuity or a confirmed current location.
Explore sculptures that physically move: visitor-activated mechanisms, changing forms and wind-driven installations. Compare documented projects, understand how motion shapes the encounter, and identify the site and maintenance questions to resolve with an artist.
Find installations that make listening, musical participation or sound-responsive light part of a place. Compare playable works and spatial compositions, then plan how the experience will share space with visitors, neighbors and everyday activity.
