What the project record tells us
2018 EDC Las Vegas wall-based interaction; identity and role cross-checked in artist portfolio XML.
A spray-can gesture becomes projected paint
At EDC Las Vegas in 2018, Laser Graffiti used specially made laser spray cans to let participants draw with virtual paint. A forty-by-twenty-one-foot wall was mapped with four video projectors, and the interaction was programmed in TouchDesigner. Moyer’s portfolio identifies his role as designer and links to the project’s own documentation. The example is useful for participatory commissions because the input object is immediately familiar. A host should ask how drawing positions, projected visibility and participant turnover will be organized for the specific wall and audience.
How will drawing positions, visibility and participant turnover be organized around the wall?

Insomniac commission with separate digital, mechanical and fabrication credits.
Rotation and projection require a shared tracking system
The EDC Caterpillar is a thirty-seven-foot sculpture that participants rotate, with software tracking its position so projected graphics remain aligned. Its documentation identifies Insomniac Events as commissioner and records presentations at EDC New York, EDC Las Vegas and Nocturnal Wonderland. Todd Moyer Designs handled design, programming and content; Jonathan Hamilton’s Crash Design Studio led fabrication and mechanical design. Four projectors stood on towers a hundred feet away. A host should ask how those projection distances, participant movement and mechanical responsibilities would fit the proposed site.
How will projection distances, participant-driven rotation and mechanical responsibilities fit the site?

2013 Lightning in a Bottle work, with explicit collaborative production credits.
A kinetic commission depends on several specialties
Moyer’s portfolio describes Fractoid II as a kinetic, interactive, projection-mapped sculpture unveiled at Lightning in a Bottle in 2013. Its design credits include Gabriel Pulecio, Mike Russek and Moyer; Jonathan Hamilton and Doyle Leeding are credited for the build, Andy Baker for Arduino programming and mechanical engineering, and Sam Pool for sound design. Moyer’s own role included TouchDesigner programming. A buyer can use this record to ask how motion, sensing, projected content and sound will be tested together, and which specialist will resolve problems at their interfaces.
