Documented artwork / kinetic audiovisual light installation

Paraluna

Christopher Schardt

A computer-controlled disc combines spinning LEDs, changing orientation, and classical music. Light patterns interact with rotation to form radial shapes or appear to hover above the moving structure. The artist’s portfolio describes a 10-metre configuration.

How this work was made and presented

Artist’s project description; dimensions vary across accounts.

Motion participates in the image

Schardt’s Paraluna description explains that the LED disc rotates, tilts and changes height under computer control. Some patterns use that rotation to form spirals; others use persistence of vision to make images appear suspended. Classical music accompanies the visual scenes. The moving support and image programming are therefore connected parts of the intended experience.

A documented overhead presentation

In his 2023 Mariposa campaign, Schardt looks back at Paraluna’s 2018 installation and describes its LED disc suspended from a boom lift, moving vertically with patterns choreographed to classical music. He explains his broader aim of giving visitors a place to rest beneath light and music. A host can use that account to clarify the proposed viewing experience and support arrangement.
