Documented artwork / temporary public art installation

Order of Importance

Leandro Erlich

Credit as documented: Leandro Erlich

Order of Importance transformed the appearance of a traffic queue into a temporary public artwork on Miami Beach's oceanfront. Leandro Erlich arranged sixty-six life-size cars and trucks as though they were caught in congestion. The City of Miami Beach commissioned the installation for Miami Beach Art Week in 2019. Its familiar vehicle imagery supported an argument about the urgency of climate change and the difficulty of changing established patterns of behavior.

Materials and construction

The municipal project page dates the public presentation to December 1–15, 2019. The number sixty-six counts the represented vehicles; it does not supply the installation's dimensions.

Presentation and site context

The documented site was the oceanfront at Lincoln Road. This record concerns that ended 2019 presentation; later projects inspired by its traffic imagery require separate identities.
