Claes Oldenburg (1929–2022) transformed familiar objects through exaggerated scale, unexpected materials and playful changes of context. His career encompassed Pop Art, soft sculpture, performances and monumental public works. From the 1970s he collaborated extensively with Coosje van Bruggen, whose co-authorship is essential to the outdoor projects documented here. Their Split Button was installed outside the University of Pennsylvania’s Van Pelt Library in 1981. Walker Art Center dates Spoonbridge and Cherry to 1985–1988, encompassing development and realization for the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Denver Art Museum records their Big Sweep in 2006 beside its Hamilton Building. This individual historical profile preserves the shared credits and provides civic-scale reference projects; it does not describe a current studio or offer new commissions by the deceased artist.

Colin Bowring, who works as Wizard, scales experiments with light, balance and motion into participatory sculptures. His portfolio describes Bucky Ball, made in 2022, as a rotating structure based on the geometry of a carbon-60 molecule. The artist records its use at Burning Man and credits Jack Wahl with installation help, and Sydney Parcell and Levi Call with removal. Space Polyp, dated 2019, combines a suspended seating form, motion and changing colored lights; Bowring names friends QJ, Dustin and Martin for assembly and transport. This documented collaborative practice uses engineering ideas as a basis for physical experience. A later OHM project description remains written as construction in progress, so it is not treated as proof of completion or safe operating performance.
Explore sculptures that physically move: visitor-activated mechanisms, changing forms and wind-driven installations. Compare documented projects, understand how motion shapes the encounter, and identify the site and maintenance questions to resolve with an artist.
Find installations that make listening, musical participation or sound-responsive light part of a place. Compare playable works and spatial compositions, then plan how the experience will share space with visitors, neighbors and everyday activity.
