What the project record tells us
Sculpture-park circulation and viewing
The walk reveals the geometry
Laumeier Sculpture Park describes Crete, dated 1976–78, as a weathering-steel work whose triangular relationships appear to open and close as viewers move. It belongs to Ginnever’s Hellenic series. The museum explicitly asks visitors to look without touching. For a similar landscape placement, provide space to see the sculpture from several sides while respecting the owner’s interaction policy. A buyer should review how paths and planting support that movement, rather than assuming the piece is fully understood from its arrival view.

Small models test radically different readings
The San José Institute of Contemporary Art’s Rashomon exhibition presented related maquettes in fifteen orientations, revealing different appearances of the same underlying form. Its caption dates them to 1993–95. Study a physical model from multiple positions before choosing an installation. Confirm the orientation intended for the particular object; the exhibition’s experimental arrangement does not authorize rotating an acquired sculpture without review.

A temporary work can extend a gallery outside
The institute’s 2012 announcement paired indoor Rashomon with Slant Rhyme across the street in Parque de los Pobladores, in collaboration with the Voigt Family Sculpture Foundation. It scheduled the temporary outdoor display into February 2013. A similar loan can connect gallery and public space. Coordinate interpretation across both locations and settle installation, inspection and removal responsibilities before promoting the outdoor component.
