blu Marble

Sebastian Errazuriz

Credit as documented: Sebastian Errazuriz

Sebastian Errazuriz's blu Marble brought an enlarged view of Earth to 159 Ludlow Street in Manhattan in March 2019. The studio describes a twenty-foot LED structure visible during daytime and at night. Software assembled satellite photographs into a gradually changing image, inviting passersby to consider human life at a planetary scale. The public launch took place March 13, with a private event at Richard Taittinger Gallery and a one-night neighborhood presentation in cooperation with the New Museum.

Materials and construction

The studio describes a bot retrieving NASA satellite photographs and software interpolating between stills; its term live stream therefore does not mean a continuous camera shot. Fontem Ventures supported the project through its blu campaign.
