Documented artwork / immersive sound-and-light installation

Wave

Squidsoup

Wave arranges suspended light-and-sound orbs into the shape of a breaking wave. Each autonomous unit contributes a voice and light point to a coordinated, walk-through environment; the touring configuration develops an earlier Salisbury Cathedral commission.

Studio documentation of Wave and its cathedral origin

Five hundred individual sources of light and sound

Squidsoup describes Wave as approximately five hundred suspended orbs, each combining LEDs, a speaker, a microcomputer, sensing and wireless communication. The studio connects this touring work to the original Salisbury Cathedral commission in 2018–19. Its approximate 16-by-6-by-5-metre envelope is a configuration reference, not a structural design. Available dates, support loads and the current technical package remain unconfirmed.

Keep later desert variations distinct

The studio’s separate Desert Wave / Standing Wave account describes a 600-orb development shown at Burning Man in 2019 and then over the Arizona Canal at Canal Convergence. Burning Man Arts and Scottsdale Arts supported that project. This illustrates how one artistic concept can be adapted to contrasting settings; the later variation’s count and engineering should not be substituted for the touring Wave specification.
