Virga

Cliff Garten Studio

Credit as documented: Cliff Garten Studio

Virga connects Oklahoma’s river and cloud forms in an aluminum installation for the Bennett Event Center atrium in Oklahoma City. Cliff Garten Studio describes two elongated elements inspired by precipitation that evaporates before reaching the ground. The work links the Oklahoma River’s outline with water in the sky. Its commissioner is the City of Oklahoma City and the city’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs. The studio credits Cliff Garten as director, Matthew Gilio-Tenan as designer and project manager, and Patrell Engineering Group as engineer.

Materials and construction

A December 2020 Greater Oklahoma City Chamber account reports recent installation, programmable LEDs and fabrication and installation by Kevin Maag of Metal Arts. The studio dates the project 2020, but the city’s artwork list says 2021 without explaining the difference. The Chamber’s seventy-two-foot description also differs from the studio’s per-element measurements; no deduction about dedication, accession or revision resolves these conflicts.
