Untitled (Filigreed Steel Line for Wellesley College)

Robert Irwin

Credit as documented: Robert Irwin

Robert Irwin’s Untitled (Filigreed Steel Line for Wellesley College) introduces a long, narrow steel band into the sloping landscape near Lake Waban. Wellesley describes a straight, 120-foot line with leaf patterns cut into the metal. Reflections from ripples on the lake animate its surface, linking the fabricated band to the changing water and terrain. The college records placement in 1980 and includes the work in the outdoor sculpture collection managed by the Davis Museum.
