Documented artwork / inhabitable tape installation

Tape Des Moines

Numen/For Use

Credit as documented: Numen / For Use

Tape Des Moines created an inhabitable, translucent structure inside the lower and upper I. M. Pei galleries at the Des Moines Art Center. Made for Drawing in Space, the installation contrasted a light, organic enclosure with the building's rough concrete and emphatic geometry. Numen / For Use describes its form as following the building's existing flows of movement. Visitors could take familiar routes through an elevated enclosed passage, experiencing the gallery's circulation from within the artwork.

Materials and construction

The artist calls it a tape installation but provides no polymer specification, load rating or overall measurements. Its described translucency was heightened by contrast with the concrete setting.

Presentation and site context

The documented exhibition ran September 28, 2017 through January 21, 2018. That presentation has ended; the record does not imply the structure survives in place.
