Sentinel

Albert Paley

Credit as documented: Albert Paley

Albert Paley's Sentinel stands in the administration circle at Rochester Institute of Technology. RIT connects its 2003 construction with a redesign intended to give the campus a stronger pedestrian center. The open base permits people to pass through the sculpture, while its 73-foot height makes it visible above nearby campus buildings. RIT reports that technicians and subcontractors from Paley Studios erected the 110-ton assembly over twelve weeks. Steel, stainless steel and bronze combine in a structure intended to connect the university's technological culture with its arts and humanities.
