Documented artwork / site-specific sculpture
Portal Park Slice
Credit as documented: Robert Irwin
Portal Park Slice is Robert Irwin’s reworking of the sculpture installed as Portal Park Piece (Slice) in Dallas’s John W. Carpenter Plaza in 1981. The original occupied a north–south alignment until its removal for redevelopment in 2016. Irwin collaborated with Downtown Dallas Parks Conservancy and landscape architects Hargreaves Jones on the revised configuration, adding filigreed steel segments and turning the work onto an east–west axis through a hill. The renamed work belongs to the redesigned Carpenter Park documented at its May 2022 opening.
