Documented artwork / touring aerial installation and live-event series

New Horizon

Doug Aitken

Credit as documented: Doug Aitken

New Horizon is Doug Aitken’s traveling artwork built around a reflective hot-air balloon and its gondola. Its Massachusetts journey in July 2019 brought together aerial movement, temporary landings and live gatherings at Trustees properties. The host describes each landing as a place for conversation, music and ideas, making the project both a physical artwork and a sequence of events. The published itinerary began at Long Point Wildlife Refuge on Martha’s Vineyard on July 12, included the Crane Estate in Ipswich, and ended in the Berkshires on July 28. Installation photographs also document a stop at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum. These are historical presentations of the 2019 project; the record does not describe a currently bookable balloon event or an available touring package.
