Luminous Stratum

Luminous Stratum suspends a changing suggestion of aircraft contrails above the pedestrian corridor at Dallas Love Field. Completed in 2018, RE:site's installation draws its colors from the North Texas sky. Streaks travel along the sculpture in both directions, then fade and blend, translating the formation and dissolution of contrails into an interior experience. METALAB is credited for design optimization and management, preserving the technical collaboration behind the work's architectural presentation.

Materials and construction
Individually laser-cut, semi-translucent white acrylic fins form a parametrically generated array. Integrated LEDs illuminate the fins, which also diffuse the light through the undulating composition.
Presentation and site context
The fins hang from the corridor's plank ceiling. Their slowly dissipating colors create an overhead atmospheric sequence for people moving through the airport.
