Loqui

Blessing Hancock

Credit as documented: Blessing Hancock

Loqui takes the shape of an oversized illuminated megaphone at The Fairgrounds Nashville. Blessing Hancock integrated community language into its stainless-steel surface, connecting the Latin title's meaning, to speak, with local stories. Metro Arts reports 415 phrases, 4,417 words and 22,020 characters. Nashville artist Miriam Speyer worked with Hancock to gather residents' responses about home and hopes for the city's future.

The artist lists stainless steel, polycarbonate and programmable LEDs. Metro Arts names Gizmo's fabrication yard and dates installation work to March 2024, following selection in October 2019. Its announcement anticipated a summer dedication; the exact completed dedication date is not established here. The lighting system animates the surface with changing colors.
