Documented artwork / interactive sculptural garden

Infinitarium

Karen Cusolito

Credit as documented: Karen Cusolito

Infinitarium enlarged an imagined botanical garden so that visitors could experience plants from the scale of a small insect. Karen Cusolito's installation brought together thirteen oversized plants and trees, including a dandelion, willows and trumpet flowers. Water, fire and light animated the garden, while integrated seating encouraged people to stay within it. The change of scale focused attention on familiar natural forms and on people's relationship to their environment.

Materials and construction

Cusolito dates the mild-steel installation to 2010 and publishes a two-hundred-foot-square footprint with elements reaching thirty feet. Her Dandelion page identifies that sculpture as originating in the Burning Man commission.

Presentation and site context

The documented presentation was at Burning Man in 2010. The later travels and specifications of an individual Dandelion should not be transferred to the complete garden.
