Documented artwork / architectural steel screen sculpture

Grass Blades

John Fleming

Credit as documented: John Fleming, with Rohleder Borges Fleming Architecture and Susan Zoccola (painting consultation)

Grass Blades marks Seattle Center's Harrison Street entrance with a flexible screen of painted steel. John Fleming designed it to guide pedestrians into the park while concealing a parking lot. Its colors sit against the nearby Museum of Pop Culture, with the Space Needle another surrounding landmark. Seattle Center dates the work to 2002 and identifies itself as commissioner. It credits RBF Architecture with project management and Susan Zoccola with painting consultation; Fleming names both as project partners.
