Documented artwork / temporary public sculpture and gathering space

Autumn (…Nothing Personal)

Teresita Fernández

Credit as documented: Teresita Fernández

Autumn (…Nothing Personal) was Teresita Fernández’s temporary public sculpture in Harvard Yard’s Tercentenary Theatre in 2018. Orange-and-yellow-striped tubes rose from concentric plywood benches between Memorial Church and Widener Library. Sunlight, moving visitors and the surrounding trees changed the installation’s appearance; embedded lights produced a different atmosphere after dark. Commissioned by the Harvard University Committee on the Arts, the work drew on James Baldwin’s 1964 essay Nothing Personal and created a setting for public readings, discussion and performance.

Materials and construction

Harvard reports tubes ten feet high but does not identify their material or the installation’s overall diameter. Its project announcement gives an August 27–October 1, 2018 presentation. The Gazette’s construction captions name Natalie Haddad and Billy Hilsee; these are installation-team credits rather than co-authorship. A prior image copyright year does not establish a separate creation or installation date.
