Documented artwork / illuminated rooftop sculpture

Watertower

Tom Fruin

Credit as documented: Tom Fruin; lighting sequences by Ryan Holsopple

Tom Fruin's Watertower transforms reclaimed plexiglass into a colorful rooftop landmark at 20 Jay Street in Brooklyn. The artist dates the sculpture to 2012 and describes it as the fourth work in his Icon series. Roughly a thousand salvaged pieces form its patchwork skin. Daylight passes through the material, while Ryan Holsopple's programmed lighting sequences animate it after dark. The structure includes interior and exterior ladders and an operable roof hatch.
