Documented artwork / monumental steel sculpture
Treemonisha
Credit as documented: John Henry
Treemonisha is a towering painted-steel sculpture at the junction of I-55, I-44 and Truman Parkway in St. Louis. Henry's archive identifies it as the second and tallest work in his Falling Card Series. The Gateway Foundation commissioned the project, and its title references Scott Joplin's opera. The archive explains that Henry wanted a name with local resonance, turning the title away from the falling-card description toward a connection with the city's musical history.
