Documented artwork / monumental bronze animal sculpture group
The Elephant Group
Credit as documented: Peter Woytuk
The Elephant Group marks arrival at the North Carolina Zoo with four life-size bronze animals: a large male and three females. Peter Woytuk simplified the bodies into rounded, concave and convex masses. The zoo's account emphasizes the spaces between the figures as part of the composition, making the grouping an environment rather than four unrelated objects. Its collection record dates installation to October 29, 1998 and identifies Bob and Bonnie Meeker as sponsors.

Materials and construction
The zoo publishes a twelve-foot height, thirty-foot width and sixty-five-foot depth for the group. These are not dimensions for every elephant. Grounds For Sculpture's artist biography separately identifies the North Carolina Zoological Society as the commissioning organization.
Presentation and site context
The documented setting is the zoo's main vehicular approach, where the arrangement greets arriving visitors.
