Documented artwork / public-art transit fence
The Canyon
Credit as documented: Gordon Huether Studio
The Canyon is Gordon Huether's 2012 artwork incorporated into the airport light-rail platform fence on Salt Lake City's North Temple Airport Line. Its ninety-six-foot profile evokes the Wasatch Mountains. Burnt-orange powder coating covers quarter-inch steel sections, which rise from three feet to nearly nine feet. Vertical segmentation changes the apparent form as pedestrians, trains and cars pass: the mountain profile seems to open or close according to viewpoint.

Materials and construction
The municipal public-art account calls this a passively kinetic effect. That description concerns a viewer's movement past the segmented structure and does not establish moving machinery. The documented object is the 2012 TRAX fence; its dimensions must not be attributed to Huether's separate same-named airport terminal installation.
