Documented artwork / illuminated sculptural ensemble
Talking Continents
Credit as documented: Jaume Plensa
Talking Continents places six illuminated human figures around Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. Commissioned by the city's Art in Public Places Commission in 2003, the ensemble represents the inhabited continents through a shared human form. Colored light links each elevated figure to a teak bench beneath it. The figures change at different rates, creating intervals of apparent agreement and separation that give the group a temporal relationship as well as a spatial one.

The arena terrace determined the figure level, allowing views from below and alongside. Benches connect the installation with the plaza's waiting and gathering spaces.
