Documented artwork / figurative courtyard sculpture
Sentinel IV
Credit as documented: Simone Leigh
Simone Leigh's Sentinel IV is a slender bronze figure in the Anna Hiss Gymnasium courtyard at the University of Texas at Austin. Landmarks dates the work to 2020 and its purchase to 2021. An elongated body rises toward a hollow, bowl-like head without facial features. The form draws on a Zulu ceremonial spoon, linking sculpture to domestic tools, status and women's labor. Landmarks interprets the figure as a guardian honoring Black femininity.

Anna Hiss Gymnasium Courtyard, University of Texas at Austin
Materials and construction
The collection lists dimensions of 128 × 25 × 15 inches. Its project history distinguishes an acquisition funded through the gymnasium's capital improvement project from an artist commission; the courtyard placement provides a setting for reflection and engagement.
