Documented artwork / illuminated station gateway sculpture

Sail

Tom Fruin

Credit as documented: Tom Fruin

Tom Fruin's Sail marks the entry to the Long Island Rail Road's Syosset station. The stainless steel and plexiglass work connects the station to Oyster Bay's maritime history, including shipbuilding and local ties to Long Island Sound. Its curved sail plane catches light and creates a visual sense of motion. MTA identifies the sculpture as a permanent work dated 2019 and describes its eighteen-foot height as a welcoming feature of the station.
