Documented artwork / interactive light installation

Rotation Index

Jason Bruges Studio

Credit as documented: Jason Bruges Studio

Rotation Index connects the Hydro and Terra buildings at Colorado State University's Spur campus in Denver. Its circular lights take their form from Colorado's crop fields, while their changing behavior reflects weather and horticultural research. The studio identifies CSU as its client and dates the project to 2023. CSU's own art inventory includes the work among its permanent installations and identifies the medium as interactive lighting on the Terra/Hydro bridge.

Materials and construction

The 348 LED rings combine live weather with data from growth chambers, greenhouses and green roofs. Stable weather yields calmer animation; temperature swings produce more erratic changes between amber and blue.

Presentation and site context

The illuminated sequence spans the pedestrian link between the campus buildings devoted to water and to food and agriculture.
