A steel anatomical heart sends flame through four chambers, with effects controlled by buttons or a participant’s heartbeat. A surrounding rib structure adds LEDs and lung-inspired hanging forms, creating a space around the central sculpture.

Pulse models the human heart in steel, with flame moving through four chambers. Flaming Lotus Girls describes two ways to activate the effects: buttons and a biosensor that follows a participant’s heartbeat. The work makes an individual bodily rhythm perceptible to the surrounding audience.
How would participants choose between biosensor and button interaction?

Ribs change the spatial brief
The collective distinguishes Pulse’s eight-by-eight-foot heart footprint from an arrangement with ribs starting at thirty by thirty feet. It records new LED-lit ribs at unSCruz in 2024. Selecting the version therefore changes both the enclosure and the space to be discussed with the host.
