Documented artwork / architectural light and performance installation

Kolonihavehus

Tom Fruin

Credit as documented: Tom Fruin with CoreAct

Tom Fruin's Kolonihavehus adapts a Copenhagen allotment shed into a colored, translucent house. Made in 2010 as the first Icon work, it uses roughly one thousand recovered plexiglas pieces collected from several Danish sources. Its European presentations included Copenhagen, Aalborg, Prague, Helsingør and Vienna before a Brooklyn Bridge Park presentation. The park now places it in its past-art archive, so the artist page's undated current-display wording is not treated as evidence of a present installation. CoreAct developed performances around the structure.

Materials and construction

A pivoting door uses handmade hinges, while the windows also open. The steel framework and salvaged glazing form an inhabitable stage for poetry, changing light and sound, rather than a sealed display object.
