Documented artwork / monumental steel sculpture
Illinois Landscape #5
Credit as documented: John Henry
Illinois Landscape #5 stretches horizontally through the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Garden at Governors State University. The university foundation commissioned it with assistance from the National Endowment for the Arts, and it debuted in the 1976 exhibition The Sculptor, the Campus, and the Prairie. Henry's archive describes a composition that balances simple structural forms through their visual weight. Its unusually extended arrangement lets the viewer experience the sculpture from within as well as from outside.
