Documented artwork / wind-driven public sculpture

Glassinator

Andrew Carson

Credit as documented: Andrew Carson

Glassinator is Andrew Carson's wind sculpture at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland. Local resident Karen Lightfeldt commissioned the work and donated it to the city's art collection. Shaped glass provides rich colors while the breeze activates the composition. Lightfeldt wanted children to enjoy the combined effects of light, color and motion, making the playground-adjacent position part of the commission's stated purpose.

Materials and construction

The city's tourism account gives a height of ten feet and places the sculpture south of the new playground, on the promenade overlooking Juanita Bay. It describes wind-driven movement, without identifying a motor, structural metal alloy or a full dimensional envelope. The reviewed account does not establish an installation year.
