East River Roundabout

Alice Aycock

Credit as documented: Alice Aycock

East River Roundabout occupies the former transfer-station framework at East 60th Street beside the East River in Manhattan. Alice Aycock's aluminum forms respond to the surrounding bridges, traffic and waterfront with spirals, stair forms and a wave. The artist dates the work 1995/2014 and credits associated architects Quennell Rothschild Associates and HOK/TCA. The Municipal Art Society describes its conception in 1994 and conservation during July and August 2014. The installation rises over the open-air pavilion and Andrew Haswell Green Park, using the retained building structure as part of its setting.
