Bull #4

Peter Woytuk

Credit as documented: Peter Woytuk

Bull #4 gives a resting animal an unusually broad and expansive presence. Peter Woytuk enlarges the bull's mass while maintaining the calm character of its posture. Grounds For Sculpture presents it with Bull #5 in a grassy setting, where the relationship between the animals and the space around them becomes part of the experience. The museum explains that Woytuk treats such groupings as a unified environment through which viewers can move.

Materials and construction

The museum dates this bronze to 2002, identifies edition 1/8 and publishes overall dimensions of eighty-two by eighty-eight by one-hundred-sixty inches. Those measurements belong to Bull #4 alone.

Presentation and site context

The museum records both bulls in its collection from 2004 and credits the gift to The Seward Johnson Atelier. Bull #5 remains a separate object identity despite the paired presentation.
