A corridor becomes an instrument

Playmodes records Beams’ premiere at Life Is Beautiful in Las Vegas in September 2018. A hundred-metre alley between stages held moving lights, luminous columns and distributed speakers. Light brightness, speed and position drove sound oscillators, turning the corridor into a linked audiovisual instrument that could be sequenced or played live from its control booth.

Calibration is part of the schedule

Playmodes’ Beams document separates hardware setup from software and audiovisual calibration. It asks for hardware installation two days before opening and at least one full day and night for the studio’s adjustments. The listed team includes studio software specialists, sound and light technicians, and setup and dismantling labor, making responsibilities and access time part of the production brief.
