Documented artwork / community street-art installation

All Hands on Deck

Damon Davis

Credit as documented: Damon Davis

All Hands on Deck began as Damon Davis's public response to the Ferguson uprising following Michael Brown's death in 2014. Davis photographed participants' hands and, with colleagues, pasted enlarged images onto boarded businesses along West Florissant Avenue. The repeated hands presented a community image of solidarity and resistance, countering accounts that reduced the neighborhood to destruction. The street and its storefront surfaces were integral to the original project.

Materials and construction

This record covers the 2014 wheatpasted street prints. It does not identify them with the separate limited-edition photolithographic portfolio produced by Wildwood Press in 2015 and acquired by the Saint Louis Art Museum in 2016. The museum's later exhibition documents that distinction; neither original installation dimensions nor surviving street-print locations are established.
