How the program works
Qualifications before developed designs
The 2026 gateway RFQ asks for qualifications, prior work and an approach before a completed design. Selected semifinalists receive a $1,000 concept honorarium. The published September 27 deadline is historical; the planned selection timetable does not establish that an artist has been chosen.
The $75,000 artist budget includes fabrication, delivery, installation, engineering, foundations, permits and insurance. The call seeks primarily steel work with a minimum 25-year life and limited maintenance. Any city-provided infrastructure requires confirmation during contracting.
Who supplies foundations, utilities and installation equipment?
Art developed alongside road works
A March 2026 city announcement invited residents to shape the sculpture themes while the Rio Grande Avenue and Oak Grove Road project was being developed. It connects the roundabout artwork with a southbound corridor, making the public-works schedule and views from several approaches relevant to design review.
CaFÉ qualifications followed by paid finalist proposals.
