Research notes for project planning
What the project record tells us
Civic plaza with integrated seating
Wind movement and a place to sit
Ralfonso’s Reflections #1 comprises three wind-driven sculptures commissioned for Boynton Beach’s Town Hall and plaza in 2020. The artist describes polished stainless-steel wings, programmable ground lighting and curved seating developed with the city’s architects and fabricator. This is a useful precedent for a kinetic artwork integrated with daily civic use. A new brief should review the moving forms and seating together, identifying the intended viewing positions and the teams responsible for the sculpture, lighting and surrounding public-space furniture.

A wall of light also tells time
The artist-issued announcement for SENSE #1 records its March 2020 installation in a West Palm Beach office lobby. Lucite and polished-steel cubes at different depths carry programmable LEDs, with an hourly light sequence functioning as a clock signal. The announcement presents motion-sensor interaction as a future development, so that feature should not be assumed for this installation. A buyer considering a related interior work should specify the required behavior, control access and support arrangements in the brief before comparing proposals.

The interface is part of the artwork
Ralfonso’s account of EX-STRATA #1 describes a 2009 light-and-sound sculpture developed with technical schools and industry collaborators. Visitors could trigger patterns through distance sensors or text messages, while a webcam enabled remote viewing. The historical interfaces are valuable commissioning evidence, but they do not establish that those services still operate. For a U.S. project using similar interaction, define the local visitor experience and the plan for software, communications and replacement components before selecting a technology-dependent proposal.
