Program context & project planning

How the program works

A committee process tied to buildings

Utah describes a project committee with building users, architects and visual-arts representatives, supported by the arts agency as a nonvoting facilitator. Qualifications lead to a shortlist and paid proposals, followed by presentations and selection. Understanding the building's users is therefore part of preparing a relevant submission.

Big Art Partners planning question

Which building users and design-team members will evaluate the proposal?

Integrated work and continuing stewardship

The state program funds commissions as well as maintenance and conservation. Its examples include artwork incorporated into floors, glass and railings. That approach makes construction coordination, replacement components and access for future treatment useful early discussions, rather than assumptions left until installation.

Big Art Partners planning question

How will the artwork's components remain accessible for repair?

USU offers two interior locations

The USU Animal Science Building call provides $164,000 for an installed artwork and lists October 12, 2026 as its application deadline. Options include a first-floor wall or a suspended work in a third-floor double-height space. Installation is anticipated in summer 2028.
