A capital program with several kinds of public space
Tulsa’s Office of Public Art and Community Partnerships describes a collection distributed across parks, plazas, streets and civic buildings. Its Percent for Art history links the program to an allocation from eligible vertical construction projects. Those different settings matter when assessing an artist’s experience: an outdoor freestanding object, a streetscape intervention and an artwork integrated into a building bring different production needs. A useful project brief identifies the responsible capital project and actual site before narrowing an artist shortlist.
