How the program works

Public-art production services have a formal entry route

San Antonio’s prequalified public-art list includes visual artists and providers of support services, including design, fabrication and installation. The city describes applications on an every-other-year cycle. That distinction is useful for a production partner: eligibility can concern a defined service rather than authorship of the artwork itself. A capabilities statement should identify the actual role and evidence of completed work. Admission to the list should be understood as a route to consideration for future city projects, not a guaranteed contract.

The 2026 roster application has closed

San Antonio’s application page explicitly marks the 2026 prequalification application closed. It lists July 24 as the submission deadline and a subsequent review and approval sequence through arts bodies and City Council. The page says approved eligibility lasts six years and does not guarantee work. For planning, distinguish the closed intake from future projects that may use approved providers. A team considering this route should confirm its roster status rather than assuming a new application is presently available.

Is the team already approved for future consideration?

Local and nonlocal applicants use different preparation steps

San Antonio’s application guidance separates artists in the city’s surrounding county area from applicants outside that area. Local visual artists must establish an approved Artist Registry profile before submitting; nonlocal artists and support-service providers skip that step. Applications go through GO Smart, and the guidance explains separate treatment for teams and individual applications. This is useful preparation for a future cycle: establish the correct applicant identity, residency category and portfolio location before assembling materials, while checking the next cycle’s requirements when published.
