How the program works

Construction funding also supports a lasting collection

Houston’s Civic Art Program describes a 1.75-percent allocation from eligible city construction projects for civic art, including conservation of the collection. Its remit spans different municipal facilities and public settings. For a commissioning team, this links new work to a continuing responsibility for artworks already installed. A practical brief should identify the capital project, intended public experience and future care arrangements together, so the installation budget does not become the only measure of whether the work is viable.
