How the program works
The 2025–2027 exhibition pairs loans with a purchase
HAPA’s December 2024 announcement describes anonymous panel review, $3,000 honoraria and one planned acquisition. Works must remain available for the full two-year display; sale availability is preferred rather than mandatory. This historical call establishes a placement model, not a currently open application.
Can the artist commit to both the display period and removal?
Novel Idea combines sculpture and public seating
HAPA’s sculpture-show page records Craig Gray’s Novel Idea as a granite book-form bench at 329 Hardy Street. Community members chose titles and authors for engraving. The work demonstrates an existing functional-art precedent, while any new site still requires its own accessibility and installation assessment.
How might community input shape use without compromising the artwork’s integrity?
HAPA coordinates approvals and ownership
The organization’s published procedure requires coordination before public-art work begins. Its scope covers owner permission, funding, selection, agreements, applicable historic review and maintenance oversight. A project team should establish these responsibilities before treating a promising site as a confirmed placement.
