How the program works
A sculpture tour connects visitor experience and sales
Eau Claire’s Sculpture Tour describes an eleven-month display of original outdoor works along public streets, supported by business sponsorships, private contributions and volunteers. Artists receive a stipend, and exhibited sculptures are offered for sale. The organization connects this model with tourism, education and downtown activity. For a community developing a similar program, the practical distinction is that the exhibition creates public access while the artist’s work can remain a saleable asset. Sponsorship, interpretation and installation coordination each need an identified role.
Who funds and coordinates each season’s public presentation?
The 2027–28 call combines a loan with sale provisions
The official call for the May 2027–April 2028 tour lists an October 15, 2026 deadline and permits up to four submissions per artist. Selected sculptures remain artist-owned, receive a $1,000 stipend paid in two stages and are insured while in the program’s custody. The tour retains a twenty-five-percent commission on sales and related commissioned work. Artists should therefore price with the commission included and distinguish the stipend from a purchase payment when deciding whether a particular piece fits the exhibition.
Installation readiness comes before artistic selection
Eau Claire’s 2027–28 call puts public safety and outdoor durability ahead of artistic evaluation. It requests baseplate dimensions and normally requires a weldable steel or stainless-steel mounting plate, with exceptions for some large works. Pieces must arrive in their intended finished condition and be completed thirty days before installation. For a placement plan, resolve the mounting method, finish repairs and delivery responsibilities early. Large-scale transport through the partner network should be confirmed individually because the call identifies possible artist transport responsibilities.
