How the program works
Selection methods vary by project
Tampa publishes open, limited, direct and hybrid artist-selection routes. Staff recommend project scope, budget and panel composition to the Public Art Committee. Artists should identify the applicable route before preparing a proposal; not every collection acquisition begins with an unrestricted public call.
Which selection route and eligibility rules apply to the intended project?
Re-siting and conservation are recognized project types
Tampa’s selection policy includes conservation and re-siting alongside commissions and purchases. Panels consider location, durability, vandalism exposure and the artist’s delivery ability. Existing-work proposals therefore need evidence of site fit and condition, not only a portfolio image.
What condition, transport and attachment information supports a re-siting proposal?
America, America demonstrates renewed use of an existing work
Tampa’s Riverwalk page documents relocation of Barbara Neijna’s America, America from a library setting to the Riverwalk. The steel sculpture was acquired in 1977. The example shows how changing placement can create new pedestrian encounters; it does not establish that the work is available for another move.
Open, limited, direct or hybrid artist selection; program staff recommend acquisition method and panel to the Public Art Committee.
