Iowans Create Community Mural Program — FY27 artist RFQ

The opportunity

One original, site-specific mural for a selected Iowa community, planned, designed and painted with a protective sealant by June 30, 2027; the community picks the artist from the finalist pool in December 2026. Anticipated contract terms include royalty-free promotional licences to IEDA, $1,000,000 general liability insurance, indemnification and a 36-month warranty.

Who can apply

Individual artists or artist teams represented by one applying individual. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or in the process of obtaining permanent residency, and full-time Iowa residents domiciled or maintaining a permanent place of abode in Iowa. No minimum age appears in the reviewed current RFQ.

Funding & costs

‘The total project budget is $25,000’, covering all costs with no additional funds: artist fees for design, project management and creation, supplies, equipment rental and travel; part must go to site selection, community engagement and planning. Contract value is set partly by the agreed mural size and an IEDA-approved estimate.
