Nixon Road roundabouts public art RFQ — Ann Arbor

City of Ann Arbor (managed by the Ann Arbor Art Center’s Art in Public program, with Wade Trim)

The opportunity

Create original permanent art specifically for the Nixon Road corridor: one installation or a series across three roundabouts and nearby sidewalk/bus-stop areas. Three-dimensional work is expected; two-dimensional imagery on sculptural substrates is welcome. Safety/sightlines, possible breakaway mounting, durable materials and Michigan-engineer-stamped drawings are required considerations. Roundabout centers have no power; sidewalk locations generally do. Approximate schedule: semifinalists December 2026, finalist March 2027, completion 2028 or earlier. The selected artist contracts with the City of Ann Arbor; the commission budget covers all selected locations.

Who can apply

Any artist or team residing in the United States, 18+, able to work in Ann Arbor as needed; visa holders must be able to work legally in the U.S.

Funding & costs

‘The total commission budget is $75,000’, inclusive of design, assistants, engineering and stamped drawings, permits, insurance, materials, fabrication, transport, installation, site work, travel, per diem, documentation and contingency; it may fund one location or be divided along the corridor. Up to five semifinalists each receive a $750 stipend outside the $75,000.
