What the project record tells us

Hyundai exhibition, Milan Design Week, 2013.

A physical point cloud visitors can influence

FLUIDIC, made for Hyundai’s 2013 Milan Design Week exhibition, used 12,000 suspended spheres and eight laser projectors to turn light into a volume visitors could influence. WHITEvoid calculated the spheres’ positions from the projectors’ viewpoints so that beams could reach deep into the array without obstruction; multiple tracking systems detected visitors. The 825-square-meter presentation connects optical design with audience circulation. A host considering this approach should ask how projector positions, suspension geometry and tracking coverage would be coordinated before the room layout is fixed.

Kinetic rings across very different rooms

CIRCULAR is credited to Christopher Bauder, with technical support from KINETIC LIGHTS. Three illuminated pixel rings move in synchronization with an electronic score, making the relationship between suspended motion and sound the central event. WHITEvoid documents presentations in Berlin, Loulé and Paris between 2015 and 2017, including settings as different as an apartment, a theater stage and a brewery attic. That history suggests a useful planning question: which ceiling capacity, viewing distances and darkness conditions define the version appropriate to a particular room?

Keep authorship and local production visible

SKALAR combines moving mirrors, synchronized lights and multichannel sound inside large dark spaces. The artists are Christopher Bauder and Kangding Ray; WHITEvoid’s project record separately identifies production partners for Berlin, Zurich, Mexico City and Amsterdam. In Berlin these include Kraftwerk Berlin and CTM Festival, while Amsterdam credits Audio Obscura and Westergas. This distinction matters when assembling a presentation team. A buyer’s brief should ask who is responsible for the artistic sequence, kinetic equipment, local production and sound commissioning, with those responsibilities recorded separately.
