What the project record tells us

Park entrance · Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Spectral Grove: a passage into a public park

SOFTlab’s 2019 Philadelphia project uses latticed, powder-coated aluminum and steel ribbons forming six columns and an open canopy. The studio credits Wexford Science + Technology, University City Science Center and Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority as commissioners, with ARUP as collaborator. Changing viewpoints and sunlight are integral to the experience at Pivot Park’s entrance.

Airport connector · Kansas City, Missouri

Cloud Gazing: perceived motion along an airport connector

Cloud Gazing was commissioned by Kansas City International Airport and the City of Kansas City in 2023. Ten suspended forms combine aluminum frames, nylon straps and imagery on acoustic tiles. The studio explains that travelers’ changing viewpoints create the animation; the cloud forms do not need to move physically.
