May/September: an architectural surface experienced in motion
Eskenazi Health identifies May/September as a 12,000-square-foot work on its Indianapolis parking garage. Approximately 6,500 colored metal leaves create different impressions as viewers pass at different speeds and angles. Gold and indigo surfaces connect the design to T.C. Steele’s Four Seasons in the hospital’s earlier art program.
The commissioning institution credits Indianapolis Fabrications, also known as iFab, with fabricating May/September. It also records the work’s selection for the 2015 Public Art Network Year in Review. For project planning, the important precedent is the documented collaboration between artist, local fabricator and host institution.
