Research notes for project planning
What the project record tells us
Robotic light installation with separately listed sound and documentation credits.
The machinery produces its own audible score
Mechanical Ballet makes motorized stage lights both performers and sound sources. Quiet Ensemble removes their protective covers and amplifies their mechanical noises through precision microphones, arranging individual and collective movements as a robotic concert. The artist-published documentation credits Fabio Sestili for sound design and separately notes Arssalendo’s revisited sound. For a presentation, the practical question is how the selected version balances the exposed mechanisms, audience distance and acoustic amplification, including which soundtrack or sound treatment belongs to the intended installation rather than its documentation video.

Big Art Partners planning prompt Smoke-filled soap-bubble installation; documentation video produced by Balloon Museum.
Smoke-filled bubbles make contact visible
A Quiet Storm places visitors in darkness among soap bubbles filled with white smoke. Contact breaks the fragile membrane and releases the contained cloud, while illumination makes the changing bubbles and shadows visible. Quiet Ensemble’s own documentation credits Balloon Museum for video production, a role that should remain distinct from the artwork’s authorship. A host should ask how bubble generation, air movement, consumable replenishment and floor care will work together during opening hours, and how visitors will understand the intended contact without obstructing one another’s experience.

For your project briefHow will air movement, replenishment, floor care and visitor contact be managed during operation?
Big Art Partners planning prompt Documented 2019 presentation in the former church of Sala Santa Rita, Rome.
A former church holds a digital firefly swarm
Romaeuropa’s archive places Primitive Primavere at Rome’s Sala Santa Rita from November 7 to 24, 2019. Quiet Ensemble used algorithm-controlled pixels of light to evoke an intermittent swarm of fireflies within the former church, continuing the duo’s investigation of natural behavior through artificial systems. The setting matters because the work changes how an existing interior is perceived. A venue brief should ask how the light field will relate to architectural features, what background illumination can remain and where viewers can pause without interrupting the spatial composition.
